Easy ways to make your home more secure
Your home is your castle, so it's important you protect it from potential
burglars. There are things you can do to make your home more secure, and the
helpful folks at Paul's Ace Hardware can help you find the items you need.
Install a quality deadbolt lock on all exterior doors, including those leading
to the garage. For doors with only a key-in-knob lock, install a deadbolt above
the lock.
Make sure all your exterior doors and frames are of solid construction. Weak or
cracked doors are easy targets for forced entry by burglars.
Lock your doors and close your windows each night. Unlocked entries are
invitations for potential thieves.
Keep the area around entrances well-lit or install motion detector lighting to
ward off unwanted visitors.
Trim trees, bushes and shrubs near windows and entrances. Large plants provide
good hiding spots for burglars.
Know who is at the door before you open it by installing a door viewer. Don't
rely on door chains because a kick or shove can break it free of the door.
Periodically re-key all of your locks. Many security measures won't stop someone
with a working key from entering your home. If you're moving into a new home,
definitely have all the locks re-keyed.
Count on the helpful folks at Ace to help you put these security tips into
action. We have our own key cutting service, plus we carry everything from
motion sensor lights to deadbolt locks. Paul's Ace Hardware is located at 100
East main St. Ottawa, OH and is open Mon thru Fri 8am till 8pm, Sat 8am till
